Heavy Duty Rod Seal
The heavy duty rod seal is a high-performance 2-piece combination seal consisting of a PTFE-filled slide ring and a profiled elastomer energizer. It is designed for large-diameter, high-pressure hydraulic cylinders where anti-twist stability and extrusion resistance are critical.
Technical Specifications
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
| Pressure | ≤ 60 MPa | Dynamic peak pressure |
| Speed | ≤ 5 m/s | Reciprocating motion |
| Temperature | -35°C to +100°C / +200°C | Based on elastomer (NBR/FKM) |
| Standards | Fits ISO 7425-2 grooves | Compatible with Trelleborg Stepseal V |
Material Selection
| Code | Compound | Characteristics |
| P502P | PTFE + Bronze | High compressive strength; standard for heavy-duty hydraulics. |
| P508P | PTFE (Zinc-free) | Optimized for zinc-free oils and non-lubricating fluids. |
| N / V | NBR 80 / FKM 80 | Profiles available in Nitrile or Viton for chemical compatibility. |
Key Engineering Benefits
- Zero Stick-Slip: PTFE sliding surface prevents crawling at low speeds.
- Anti-Twist Design: The profiled energizer prevents seal rotation during short-stroke oscillations (dithering).
- High Extrusion Resistance: Supports radial clearance (S-max) up to 0.7mm depending on pressure and diameter.
- High Contact Pressure: Specific cross-section geometry ensures zero-leakage at low and high pressures.
Critical Applications
- Injection Molding Machines: High-frequency cycling.
- Forging & Press Machines: Extreme pressure spikes.
- Marine Hydraulics: Large-bore corrosion-resistant cylinders.
- Metallurgical Equipment: Heavy load and high-temperature stability.
Critical Applications
- Groove Dimensions: Machined to ISO 7425-2 or ISO 3320.
- Surface Finish: Recommended $R_a \le 0.3 \mu m$ for the sliding rod.
- Lead-in Chamfers: Essential to prevent PTFE ring damage during assembly.
